Second edition of a collection of satirical biographical sketches of the members of the French Parliament in Paris (States General; États-Généraux) during the first year of the French Revolution, among which are famous men in French politics at the time. like Necker, Mirabeau, the Marquis de la Fayette, the Comte de Montmorin, the Duc de Luxembourg, the Vicomte de Noailles and others. Most members are described in a satirical way, except for a few, including Mirabeau, under a fictitious name. A separate leaf listing these names with the real names of the persons, is added to each vol. (leaf for vol. 2 is missing).
The 'Galerie' was published anonymously and raised must dust in the world of French politics. Many names were mentioned as candidates for authorship: Jean-Pierre-Louis de Luchet, marquis de la Roche du Maine, Antoine de Rivarol (1753-1801), Choderlos de Laclos, M. Sénac de Meilhan, Cérutti and above all Mirabeau, who contributed most probably to his own biography as he is, as one of the very few, described favorably. Tournaux characterises the author as "un homme de talent et d'esprit, d'un homme du monde qui connait même en générale assez bien les personnes dont le caractère a pu tenter sa malignité".
