Contemporary marbled calf, richly gilt spine with green morocco title label, red painted edges and very interesting marbled endpapers. With a full-page engraving of San Ignacio de Loyola by Aguera and several woodcut borders and endpieces. XIV, 168; 173 pp.

Second edition of this rare poetical work devoted to theology, pedagogy, poetry and mnemonics, written by Francisco Xavier Lozano (1721-1801). The first edition was published in 1788 at Cesena, Italy, with the title Recuerdos de las eternas verdades... It contains 920 poems, all devoted to the Catholic doctrine or to an 'Evangelical truth'. The poems are printed in roman characters in the left column of each page, the right column containing references and citations printed in Italics. The work is divided into 14 sections, equally divided over 2 separately paginated parts.

The first part contains: De la Muerte; Del Juycio Particular; Del último fin del Hombre; Del Infierno; Del Purgatorio; Del Pecado; De la Gloria.
The second part contains: De la Pasion de Jesus; De la Conquista del Cielo; Del Juycio Universal; De la Misericordia de Dios; De la Imitacion de Christo; Del Amor a Dios; Del Amor a Maria.
The work is dedicated to the patriarch S. Ignacio de Loyola. Lozano was born at Valdepeñas and joined the Company of Jesus on 14 April 1737. He went to Mexico, but the decree of Charles III made him come back to Europe. He first settled in Italy, but later returned to Spain where he died in Elche.
