Popular travel book for Dutch youth by Pieter Louwerse (1840-1907), telling about the first Dutch voyage of exploration in search of a Northern passage, and how the crew had to winter at Nova-Zembla on the North Pole, where many perished. The frontispiece shows the relics found at Nova-Zembla in 1871. At the end some explanatory notes are added.
