Cologne [= Amsterdam], Joachim à Metelen, 1670. 8vo. Contemporary vellum. With printer's device on title. (16), 556 (2) pp.

Original edition of this important history of the diocese of Deventer by the parish priest and provicaris of the diocese of Deventer Jan Lindeborn (Deventer 1630 - Utrecht 1696). Lindeborn studied theology in Cologne, was appointed in 1656 as a curate of the St. Nicolas church at Utrecht and in 1671 as parish priest. At the same time he was provicaris of the vacant bishopsee of Deventer. He was a prolific writer of devotional texts but he became famous by composing this History of the Deventer diocese which is still an important source of information on the religious and clerical life and circumstances of Deventer.
For the history of the Modern Devotion, especially flourishing in the surroundings of Deventer in the 15th and 16th centuries, the book is very valuable until the present day.text is preceeded by a 'Censura' of 31.3.1670, the 'Approbatio' of 21.4.1670, the dedication by Joannes Lindeborn to Petrus of St. Truiden, the General of the Congregation of Windesheim (p. (5-9)), and dedicatory poems by Theodorus Mensing ('Daventria anagramma Unde tiara'), T. Hanswerker, H. van Wel, C. Loots and Henr. Bloemaert.

Very good copy of this important History of the diocese in Deventer.
