Second French translation of this classic of Dutch literature

(6), 271, (2), 319 pp. Original edition of this French translation by Léon Wocquier & D.J.C. van Lennep (1827-1895) of this classic of nineteenth century Dutch literature. Jacob van Lennep (1802-1868) has first published his famous novel De roos van Dekama in 1831. It soon became one of the highlights of the new genre of the historical novel, introduced by Walter Scott in England. The novel was translated in English in 1837, in German in 1847 and for the first time in French in 1840 by A.J.B. Defauconpret (1767-1843) and A. Dubourcq. The present new translation was made for the well-known series of the Librairie Hachette: the Bibliothèque des meilleurs romans étrangers, which was published in 1860 with a second edition published in 1879. Good uncut copy in its original wrappers of this rare edition, with the owner's stamp of the 'Ministère de l'intérieur' on the French title.- (Front cover loose).
