First title in red and black with woodcut printer's device repeated on title of part two, two large engravings in text, woodcut head- and endpieces, woodcut initials. (36, incl. title), 558 (34) pp. Corrected and posthumously published edition of this important work on ancient Roman and Dutch law by the lawyer Simon van Leeuwen (Leyden 1626- The Hague 1682). Other editions were printed in Leyden (1662, 1672, 1678, 1641) and Amsterdam (1678, 1688). Simon van Leeuwen started his carreer in Leyden. In 1649 he practised Law in The Hague, in 1652 he was a secretary in Soeterwoude. In 1653 he went back to Leyden to became a lawyer, where he also fullfilled some urban duties. From 1681 until his death in 1682 he was the clerk of the High Court in The Hague. Good copy.- (Title and one leaf of dedication loose; some marg. waterstains and old wormholes).
