The history of a famous convent of the Regular Canons

(16), 180 (28) pp. Rare original and only edition on the history of the Corsendonk monastery, an Augustinian priory of the Regular Canons near Turnhout (Belgium), and the Congregation of Windesheim, by Joannes Latomus (1524-1578), posthumously published with a continuation and extensive annotations by Joannes Hoybergius, prior of Carsendonck in the 1640's. The monastery was founded in 1398 and closed in 1784. Joannes Latomus was a scholarly prior of Corsendonck who was in contact with Paulus Manutius in Venice and who has discovered the original manuscript of the 'Imitation of Christ' by Thomas à Kempis in the convent of St. Agnes (Agnietenberg) near Zwolle. The book is dedicated to Petrus Parys, the prior of the monastery Groenendael by Joannes Hoybergius, followed by listing the books mentioning Latomus, and a letter to Hoybergius by Augustus Wichmans, priest in Tilburg, dated Alphen, 3 November 1642.
