Very rare first edition of a many-sided work, which gives some extensive information about the many different aspects of hunting. Not only the work elaborates on the hunting of various rodents, like rabbits and hares, badgers, deer, goats, wolves, foxes and ferrets and several fowl, like larks, snipes, ducks, quails, whitethroats, ortolans, pheasants, thrushes, partridges and Canadese geese, but also attention is given to the utilisation of the shotgun and pistol designed by J.A. Robert and the equipment of the hunter and medical care in case of a shooting accident. Furthermore the book gives information about another aspect of hunting: what to do with shot game? Or more specific: How to cook game? Some recipes are given for the preparation of ragouts, pâtés or roast game and the cooking of wild boars, pheasants and hares.
The frontispiece is said, by Thiébaud, to be not always the same one. The one in our copy shows two men dressed for hunting, one in a horse-riding costume and one in which is supposedly a costume for hunting by foot. The plate is beautifully and very neatly water-coloured by hand and the buttons on the costume jackets are mounted with gold.

Good copy preserved in original printed covers.- (Spine missing).
Souhart 283; Thiébaud 554; not in Schwerdt; not in Jeanson; NUC and BNF both list one copy.
