Freiburg im Breisgau, Herder, 1839. Folio. Half calf with gilt title on spine and blind tooled ornaments in compartments, marbled boards and endpapers. With 46 lithographed double-page maps (10 of 62x41 cm, 36 of 42x33 cm) and 4 full-page lithographed maps of 31x41 cm, all partly coloured by hand. 2 leaves with title-page and table of contents, 50 lithographed maps.

Very nice second edition (first ed. 1836) of this atlas which contains 50 (instead of 40 as mentioned on the title-page) lithographed historical maps, such as: The Roman empire during the era of Augustus; A survey map of the empire of Charles the Great; A survey map during the time of Napoleon, Egypt from it's earliest age; The Netherlands; Biblical maps, etc. Most of the maps (46) are after drawings by J. Löwenberg, 4 after drawings by J.V. Kutscheit. All maps are nicely (partly) coloured by hand.
