N. p., (1660). Folio. Contemporary calf, spine elegantly decorated in blind in compartments, sprinkled edges. Engraved title with people at work in a mine with two angels holding a cloth with the title engraved by H. von Hensbergen and 16 double page engravings by Jochim Wichman. (20), 343=(355), 1 blank,

Apparently unrecorded third or fourth edition of this important but rare work on mining and mineralogy, giving valuable information of the organization of mining and its employees. The European smelting of zinc, for example, is first described in Löhneiss' work, who refers to it as an accidental condensate in chinks and cracks of furnaces smelting the Goslar lead ores. The interesting plates are very illustrative of the practise of seventeenth century mining.
There are editions mentioned of 1617, ca. 1618, 1620 and Stockholm 1690.

Very good copy with some contemporary marginal manuscript annotations and ownership's entry on the title: 'anjcss besitzet mich Johann Friderich MZB?, Anspac, 20 May 1679'.- (Binding slightly rubbed).
DSB 8, p. 464-5.
