(32) pp. Rare thesis on optics to obtain the title of Doctor at the University of Jena by Johann Friedrich Krebs (1651-1721). Born in Bayreuth Krebs was appointed rector at the Gymnasium at Heilsbronn directly after he finished his studies, in 1675. He wrote a large number of treatises on science, philosophy, ethics and history, among others collected in "Dissertationes antibaroniae", published at Hamburg in 1709. In the present thesis he discusses the reflextion of light from various angles and heights on all sorts of surfaces, in mirrors, the human eye, etc. The author's observations are based on experimental science, the Copernican system is acknowledged, and the latest literature on the subject was studied. Authors referred to include Galilei, Christiaan Huygens, Robert Boyle, Leibnitz, Erhard Weigel and many others. At the end no less than 59 theses on various subjects were added, showing the author's wide interests. Good copy of a rare item.- (Sl. browned).
