Wien, Fr. Beck, 1838. 8vo. Later half cloth library binding with pasted shelf number on spine. XLIV, 420 pp.

Johann Heinrich Krause was the first scholar who collected testimonials on the Antique sports and the different contests of the Ancient Greeks. Krause's detailed book long remained without successor. He tells of the results of the important and large Oympic Games, including all necessary proceedings, the procedures of the contests and the behaviour of the spectators. Krause also composed a list of the Olympic winners, including the Ancient Greeks, in alphabetical order. A reprint of this work was published in 1972.

Good ex-library copy.- (Lacks the last 16 pp. bibliography(?); library stamp on title; numerous pencil underlinings and a few in ink throughout; upper right corner of p. 141 torn off with no loss of text; some occ. marg. waterstaining).
Not in Thimm.
