The plates in the first 10 parts record the plans, elevations, and decorations as well as the lavish interiors, designed by Claude le Fort du Plessy and the beautiful frescoes by Jonas Drentwett and the gardens and waterworks designed by Dominique Girard (imported from Versailles). The last and eleventh part shows the animals in Prince's Eugènes menagerie together with many plants which grow in the gardens. The zoo of the Prince was rather large and could be compared to that of Versailles and housed several curiosities such as the American Bison (plate 9) and a dog without frontlegs (plate 4); 'un chien Tripolitain, ne sans pieds de devant'. The parts record the following sections of the house and its surroundings, parts 1 to 10 contain each an engraved title and 9 engraved plates: Part 1: Plans, construction and views of the "Maison de Plaisance" situated in one of the outskirts of Vienna (1731), with engraved dedication-leaf and engravings by J.J. Mettel; Part 7: Cascades, fountains and boscages in the grand garden (1737), plate sby Groessmann, Thelott, Corvinus and Probst; Part 8: The "petit jardin", small garden decorated with arbours, a cabinet and an aviary (1737), engraved by Thelott, Groessmann, Corvinus and M. Werlin; Part 9: Plans and constructions of all kinds of annexes, like the stables and the barns (1738), with engravings by Thelott, Probst, Corvinus and T. Hattinger; Part 10: Main appartments in the garden buildings or guesthouse (1740) engraved by Sedlezki, Hattinger, Corvinus, Thelott and Groessmann; Part 11: Representation of the animals in the zoological garden (1734) with 12 engraved plates, numbered I, 1-9 and II, 1-3, engraved by Thelott, Probst and J. Friedrich. The plates depict monkeys a.o. the baboon, exotic birds like the ostrich, parrots, pelicans, vultures, the lion, deer etc. Apart from the artistic and architectorial aspects, this work is also very interesting on the subjects of garden design, interior decorating and zoology, giving an insight on 18th century royal living, all beautifully and very detailed recorded by Salomon Kleiner. The complete original edition with all the 11 series is hardly ever found. Good copy, with bookplate of F.C. Koch pasted on inside of frontcover.- (Binding sl. dam., some browning in margins, several repaired tears).
