Popular school book for beginners in the art of etching on the copper-plate, beautifully illustrated with 3 series of prints, each consisting of 6 fine etchings by Pieter Kikkert, an etching teacher at Leyden. To each plate a poem is added by various Dutch authors. This perhaps indicates that most pupils were to find a living as book-illustrators. The book is mostly found recorded under the variant title: "Proeve van Etskunde met bijgevoegde gedichtjens", and the present title stressing the point that the book was meant as a teaching manual was not to be traced at all.
