Hier is bygevoegd een tafel of richtsnoer, naar welke, in proportie van den ordinaris intrest der obligatien, in gereed geld te vinden is de juste koopprys, dewelke moet betaald werden eens, om den kooper geduurende zyn leeven, in proeveniershuizen of diergelyke, zonder schaade of voordeel de kost te konnen geeven.

Collected works on demography, annuities and insurance by Willem Kersseboom (1691-1771), a celebrated Dutch mathematician, statistician and banker living in The Hague. The treatises were meant to teach future bankers, insurers and underwriters the new sciences of statistics, demography, etc., including the drawing up of practical tables for insurance, annuities, etc. Kersseboom's works are still considered important enough to publish a modern French translation by G.A. Frinking (Paris 1970), including the translation of the biography by M. van Haaften.
Ad 1: The three treatises ('Eerste - derde verhandeling') of the first work, which were originally published separately between 1738 and 1742, are published her under a new title-page. The 'Eerste verhandeling is in its thrid edition of 1748 (second ed. 1742), and its title-page reads: Eerste verhandeling tot een proeve om te weeten de probable menigte des volks in de provintie van Hollandt en Westvrieslandt .. Waer by gevoegd is een Tafel van de waardye van lyfrente in proportie van losrente ... Derde druk. The title of the second part: Tweede verhandeling bevestigende de proeve ... als mede een reegel om te vinden de duurzaamheid der huwelyken; and the third part: Derde  verhandeling over de probable meenigte des volks ... bevattende eerstelyk een vertoog over de proportie der meenigte des volks tegens het getal der geboorene. En ten tweeden de waardye van lyfrente in proportie van losrente.
As the fourth part is added Kersseboom's treatise Eenige aanmerkingen op de gissingen over den staat van het menschelyk geslagt, uitreekening van de lyfrenten en 't aanhangsel op beide, begreepen in het boek, genaamt Inleiding tot de algemeende geographie, door Nicolaas Struyck onlangs te Amsterdam uitgegeeven: vervat in een brief van den schryver der Verhandeling tot een proeve .... It is a review, published separately by Jan van den Bergh in 1740, in the form of a letter by Willem Kersseboom on Struyck's Inleiding tot de algemeene geographie ... (Amsterdam, Isaak Tirion, 1740). Nicolaas Struyck (1686-1769), a colleague and contemporary of Kersseboom, and the author also of a number of valuable works on statistics in regard to insurance and lotteries. Struyck's works were also very popular in Japan.
Ad 2: Rare first and only edition of Kersseboom's first treatise on insurances and mathematics, most likely also printed in The Hague, nut not by Jan van den Bergh. On the last page Kersseboom signed and dated the treatise: The Hague, 28 July 1738.
Ad 3: Interesting work on the calculation of simultaneity in relation to the ages of the elderly people.  Of this work two editions appeared in 1740: one which mentions Jan van den Bergh as the printer (our copy) and one without (the only copy recorded in the Dutch Nat. Cat. (Picarta).
