Interesting story of a shipwreck on the Coromandel coast in 1761

KEARNY, Monsieur DE.

(No place, 1762). 8vo. Contemporary speckled wrappers. 48 pp.

Rare interesting story of the shipwreck of the English ship Fattysalam on the Coromandel coast, the southeast coast of India, in 1761, including the story of the adventures of M. de Kearny during his journey back to Europe. The story is told in the form of a letter to the lieutenant-général of the French army in India, le Comte d'Estaing. De Kearny was a captain in the regiment of Lally serving in Pondichéry in India.
The account was published by Anne-Gabriel Meusnier de Querlon from Nantes probably in 1762, but perhaps, following a note by Deperthes in his 1787 edition of the letter, in 1763 in Paris by Duchesne. The letter was republished in the Histoire des naufrages, ou, recueil des relations les plus intéressantes ... par Jean L.H.S. Depertrhes, vol. 3 of the Supplement: Voyages imaginaires, songes ... (1787), nr. 10, pp. 302-37.

Fine copy.
