Beautiful costume book, depicting costumes from the 22 Swiss cantons. The plates are engraved by Franz Niklaus König (1765-1832), and Gabriel Lory (1763-1840). Especially Koenig was a well-known and respected artist in his time, who started his independent career in 1768 with engraved Swiss costume plates. According to Thieme-Becker most of the present plates were first published from 1801 in the Helvetischen Almanach.
