First edition of the first complete Dutch translation of both the satires by Juvenalis and Persius, in prose, by Abraham Valentijn, Rector of the Latin School at Dordrecht. In the 17th century Dutch translations of Greek and Latin authors became increasingly popular at schools, being a short-cut to the numerous classical texts to be read, as well as serving the purpose of general humanist education.
