Second Italian edition of this practical handbook of spiritual exercises inspired by S. Ignatius. The first Italian edition had been published in 1665, in the same year as the original Spanish edition.
Spanish Jesuit author Sebastian Izquierdo (1601 - Rome 1681) taught phylosophy at Alcala and Madrid, before he was appointed 'Assistant for Spain and the Western Indies' at the 11th General assembly of the Jesuits at Rome. The lay-out shows the pedagogical intentions of this little book: the 12 parts consisting of 12 separate quires, numbered from 'A' to 'M' and paginated each from 1-12, are clearly meant to be distributed - possibly separately - according to the educational needs or level of the students.
The edifying and allegorical engraved plates with interesting sharp white and dark contrasts are designed to picture the contents of these religious exercises and to stick them in the memory.
