On an interesting collection of 264 pieces of applied art
HUYVETTER, Joan d'.Objets rares, recueillis et publiés par Joan. d' Huyvetter. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Gent, P.F. De Goesin-Verhaeghe, 1829. Sm. folio. Contemp. half calf, marbled boards, blue sprinkled edges. Frontispiece with lithographed portrait of Joan d' Huyvetter in his 49th year, by De Wasme-Pletinckx after P. van Huffel and Madou pasted in, 22 full-page engraved plates with detailed illustrations of vases, tankards, beer mugs, wine jugs, decanters, goblets, serving trays, dishes, clocks and stained-glass windows by the Gand artist Charles Onghena (1806-1886). (4), 4 pp. French edition of this illustrated work on applied arts, showing the interesting collection of Joan d'Huyvetter (1770-1883), member of the directory board of the Academy of Fine Arts at Gent, Belgium and the Royal Academy in Amsterdam. The work shows 264 pieces of decorated (ceramic) vases, tankards, beer mugs, wine jugs, wine decanters, goblets, serving trays, dishes, clocks and stained-glass windows from the 16th & 17th century by French, German and Belgian artists. Huyvetter's work first appeared in Dutch in the same year, titled: Zeldzaamheden verzameldt en uitgegeven door Joan D'Huyvetter... Gent, 1829. (Vanderheaghen, Bibl. Gantoise IV, 7249). The lithographed portrait of D'Huyvetter was especially made for the Dutch edition as the book under is arm bears the Dutch title "Zeldzaamheden ...". The original painted portrait by P. van Huffel was made after a drawing by Madou, when D'Huyvetter was 49 of age: in 1819. The portrait was lithographed by De Wasme-Pletinckx ca. 1829 and added to the French edition somewhat later. Underneath the portrait is engraved: "Joan d'Huyvetter mort à Gand, le 11 Novembre 1833, âgé 63 ans". Good copy.- (Top of spine damaged).
