Second enlarged and most complete edition of the collected poetical work in Dutch of one of the most famous Renaissance poets of the Dutch Golden Age, Constantijn Huygens (1596-1687), the father of the even more famous scientist Christiaan Huygens. Constantijn was a typical 'uomo universale', being at the same time a successful Dutch diplomat, secretary of the Dutch Stadtholders Frederik Hendrik and William II, a musician and meritorious composer and writer of poetry, not only in Dutch, but also in French, English, Italian and most of all Neo-Latin. His poetry is sober, but sharp-witted and attractive because of the poet's humane Calvinism, practical wisdom and good sense of humour. The work also contains the first Dutch translations of several poems by John Donne. It also includes "Hofwyck", a poem on the author's country-seat in Voorburg, near the Hague. The first edition of the Koren-bloemen was published in The Hague, 1658.

Good copy.- (Front cover loosening; marginal stain on p. 237).
