Amsterdam, Jacob Lescaille voor Joost Hartgers, 1644. Sm.8vo in 12. Later half vellum with gilt title on brown morocco label on spine. With 2 engravings in text, woodcut endpieces and initials. (24), 308, (4) pp.

Interesting edition of a popular songbook by Constantin Huygens (1596-1687), Dutch diplomat, poet and composer. First published in 1625, the book is divided in six parts and contains mainly Dutch songs and also some poetry in Latin, French and Italian. The poems are on all sorts of subjects and in all sorts of styles, mostly set to popular melodies. They were especially popular with Dutch youth. The small size, ca. 13 x 8 cm., allowed the book to be  carried around in one's pocket.

Fine copy.
