Contemp. marbled calf, spines ribbed and richly gilt, with red title-labels, red painted edges. With engraved allegorical frontispiece, several engravings in text, and 48 full-page engraved plates, showing 107 portraits of artists and including the author's own portrait, mostly engraved by J. Houbraken en D. Jongman, but including some by the author. Tog. ca. 1000 pp.

Second corrected and enlarged edition, with 3 more portraits compared to the first edition of 1718, of the continuation of the famous "Schilder-Boeck" of Karel van Mander by Arnold Houbraken (1660-1719). In the present richly illustrated study Houbraken treats the art of 17th century painting and painters like Van Mander treated  the painters and painting of the 16th century. The present second edition is also provided with several indices, inluding an index of  the painter's portraits, which usually are shown with two or three to one plate, often with some emblems added. The author himself contributed 7 portraits and 12 emblems.
