New edition under a new title of the history school book Geschiedenis van ons Vaderland, van 1813 tot 1815. After the events of 1830 the book had to be adapted to a new political situation, and now it was made into an entertaining historical reading-book for children, and illustrated with fine newly engraved plates.
The author, Willem van den Hoonaard (1788-1862), was a school-teacher at Hillegersberg, and had personally experienced the French Period, the fall of Napoleon, and the founding of the Dutch Kingdom in 1815. Now, after the loss of the Belgian provinces and the re-framing of the Dutch Kingdom, more emphasis is laid upon the advantages of a purely Dutch Kingdom and upon national independence. The book is written in the form of a dialogue between a father (Hoonaard himself) and his children, the father telling about his own past experiences.
The fine plates show the arrival of King Willem I of Orange at Scheveningen, the battle in the streets of Woerden, King Willem I at Quatre-Bras, and the Royal Palace Soestdijk. At the end of the work a popular song by Tollens on Willem's arrival at Scheveningen is added.

Good copy of an important school book, with ms. school-prize certificate on one of the first blanks, reading: "Een geschenk toegewezen aan Geziena Egberdina Steen; door het verwerven van twee honderd en vijfentachtig goedkeuringsblijken wegens vlyt en goed gedrag. Cat. De Koning 123 (ed. of 1837); Saalmink p. 878 (lists one copy only, at the University Library, Amsterdam).
