The plates are kept loosely in original green cloth slipcase with decorated frontcover, together with the unbound text vol. With 32 beautiful chromo-lithographed plates of horses (12 x 16 cm), mounted on grey cardboard (20,5 x 26 cm) with captions and frame printed in reddish brown. Double-leaf 4to oblong with printed title and 'Inhalt der Abbildungen', textbook: IV, 92 pp.

Very rare work on horses with brilliant colour illustrations of horse breeds (1-16), including the Hungarian, Berber, Arabian, East-Prussian horse, the English Clydesdale, etc. and plates (17-32) illustrating horses at walk ('Schrittgang'), at a jog, at a brisk and full trot, at a gallop and jumping, all designed by the German veterinarian Prof. Leonhard Hoffmann (1845-1921), since 1886 professor of animal husbandry and surgery at the Royal Veterinary School (Kgl. tierärztl. Hochschule) at Stuttgart. His works include Tierpsychologie (1881), and Tierärztliche Chirurgie (1892).

Very fine copy, with bookplate of Dr. F. Filbry, pasted on inside frontcover.- (Library stamp (canceled)).
