Report of the nine-month expedition to New Zealand by the team of the famous Novara-frigate, part of the first Austrian circumnavigation of the globe, initiated by order of archduke Ferdinand Maximilian. The author of this book was the geologist of the team. He wrote in the years after this journey not only a scientific book on the geology of New Zealand, but also this book, which is more general, and therefore of interest to a  much larger public.
Besides a detailed description of the journey itself, including the observations and findings of the teammembers, attention is also paid to the traditions and myths of the Maori, the original inhabitants, their history and politics, and the flora and fauna of the land.

Good copy of a rare work. -(Recased).
Not in NUC.
