Dutch translation, probably prior to the adapatation by J.J.A. Goeverneur, of the first half of the German fable book by Wilhelm Hey: Fünftig Fabeln für Kinder, which had just been published at Gotha in Germany in 1833. The fine lithographs, here nicely coloured by hand, are probably by or else after Otto Specker, the illustrator of Hey's German edition. The free adaptation of Hey's fables by J.J.A. Goeverneur was to be published by the same publisher in 1835, and it was in the latter's version that Hey's fables remained popular in The Netherlands for almost a century.
