(4), 184, 304, (24); (4), 56, 210, (14) pp. Beautiful copy of a work with illustrations and descriptions of the antiquities and cities of the islands of the Dutch province Zeeland by Hugo Franciscus van Heussen (1654-1719), translated into Dutch by H. van Rijn. After Van Heussens study in theology in Leuven he returned to Holland and he became a minister in Leiden from 1694 till 1719. The work describes the history of Zeeland and its clergy and scholars. This work occured in a topographical series of the Netherlands with the titles: Oudheden en gestichten van Delft en Delftland (1720) and Oudheden en gestichten van Vriesland (1723), Oudheden en Gestichten van Groningen en Groningerland (1724), Oudheden en Gestichten van Kennemerland, Amstelland, Noordholland, en Westvriesland (1721) also by Van Heussen. In this work on Zeeland one of the most interesting plates depicts the pagan altars of the local goddess Nehalennia. Good set with bookplate of Frans de Jongh on first endpaper.- (Tear in corners of two plates).
