Collected poems of Willem van Haren (1710-1768), 'Grietman' of the Frisian region Het Bilt, brother of Onno Zwier van Haren and confidant of the Stadtholder Willem IV, together with laudatory poems and poems against Van Haren, published and printed by a number of the Utrecht publishers, including probably Willem Kroon, Pieter Muntendam, Johannes Evelt en Etienne Neaulme.
The collection opens with Van Haren's famous poem Leonidas, after Herodotus' book VII, published separately in the same year, together with translations in French and Latin. The poem, seemingly treating an episode from ancient history, is in reality an appeal to the Dutch government to support Maria Theresia of Austria during the Austrian War of Succession (1740-48). The poem had an incredible success: within a few days thousands and thousands of copies had been sold. Many laudatory, including one from Voltaire!, and satirical poems followed, including poems by 'Patriot', G.S., 'Yver', R. Blok, 'Pro Patria et Libertate', R. Agricola, J.S., Willem Henskes, J.T. la Fargue, 'Uit zucht tot vrijheid', 'Finis cornat opus', J. W. Pruys and others. As a result the States General decided to send 20.000 men in support of Maria Theresia in defending the Southern Netherlands against France.

The collection includes the poem Leonidas (pp. 1-7) and its subsequent poems by 'Patriot', one of Van Haren's adversaries and Van Haren's answers (pp. 8-32); the first continuation (pp. 35-102) includes: Van Haren's 'Gezang aan het Vereenigde Nederland' (pp. 35-42), 'Rhythimologia Belgica in Augustam Vindobonam' by R. Agrocola (pp. 45-46); 'Proeve van eene overzettinge  uit Polybius ...' Benevens aanmerkingen' (pp. 135-47); the third continuation (pp. 161-364): the Latin and French translations of Leonidas (pp. 161-72), 'Kallistratus' (pp. 192-8), Van Haren's 'Lof der Vrede (pp. 219-41), 'Filippus, koning van Macedonie; of ondergang van Griekenland' by J.T. la Frague (pp. 251-74), and 'Bladwyzer der gedichten' (pp. 363-4).

Ad 2: Extracts from the Resolutions of the States General (1739) and the States of Friesland (1742) (pp. (3-8); Extract of The States General, 1742 (pp. 1-3); Extract States of Friesland, 8 Sept. 1742, 'Missive van den Prince van Orange to the States General', idem, 7 Oct. 1742 (pp. (1-8)); Extract 'Landdag 1742 at Arnhem (pp. 1-4); 'Advysen der quartieren Nymeegen, de Graafschap Zutphen ...'
