Sechste Auflage. Berlin, Paul Parey, 1901. Large 8vo. Contemporary cloth. With 150 lithographed plans, often full-page, several double-page, six printed in colours. 150, (2) pp.

Sixth edition, enlarged with 16 more plans, of a popular German model-book by Wilhelm Hampel for what the Germans call "carpet-gardening", and a classic in its field. This art of gardening implied to bring one or more parts of a garden into a mostly symmetrically designed pattern by planting flowers and greens in a carefully  arranged order, of plants and colours, so to create the impression of a large carpet. In the garden these "carpets" did not need to be flat, relief-building was included. This style of garden architecture was very popular at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.

Fine copy.
Springer p. 123.
