First edition. In his post-script the publisher excuses himself for the delay in publication, but it took time for all the copper-plates to be engraved. They were all engraved by J. Houbraken after designs by H. Pothoven. Each detail of the richly decorated festive buildings is depicted, showing an incredable variety of armorial and emblematic designs. The illustrations are numbered A to E, and 1 to 111, and are fully explained, including their location, on the accompanying leaves of text. The inauguration of Willem Carel Hendrik Friso, Prince of Orange (1711-1751) as stadholder William IV of the Dutch Republic in May 1747 put an end to the period in which there were no stadholders (the 'stadhouderloos tijdperk', 1702-1749).
Good copy.- (Binding rubbed; title and verso last leaf sl. dust-soiled; first and last lvs. sl. frayed at edges, on last leaf restored on verso; plates-leaf 16 bound at the beginning).
