The English in Venezuela in 1817
HACKETT, James. Contemporary half red morocco, spine gilt. xviii, 159, (1 blank) pp. First edition in French of an important account on the history of the wars in South America by James Hackett. The present work can be considered an indispensable contribution to understand the role of the United Kingdom in the Venezuelan independance. Francisco Miranda inspired since 1810 the first movements for independance. After ten years of fighting against the Spanish, and with English help, Bolivar consolidated the Venezuelan independance by winning the battle of Carabobo in 1821. The Independance was definitive when the battle of Maracaibo was won in 1823 by admiral Padilla, and Puerto Cabello Fort was seized in the same year by Jose Antonio Paez. Fine copy.
