With steel-engraved title vignette and 4 full-page steel-engraved plates, all in contemporary handcolouring. IV, 127 (1 blank) pp. Rare second edition (first ed. 1825) of this Robinsonade for children by Loise Hölder with beautifully handcoloured steel-engraved plates, translated from the German edition of 1821. The work can be seen as a continuation of J.H. Campe's Robinson der Jüngere. There were two versions of this scholarly book meant for the education of the younger youth: one with uncoloured and one with handcoloured plates, ours being a copy with the handcoloured plates. Good copy.- (Old owner's manuscript entry on half-title; corners of binding sl. bumped).
