GUYTON DE MORVEAU, Lous-Bernard.
Traite des moyens de desinfecter l'air, de prévenir la contagion, et d'en arrêter le progrès.

Paris, Bernard, 1801. 8vo. Contemporary half calf, spine gilt, with black morocco title label. XXXII, 306 pp.

First edition of this important work on procedures to desinfect air, with special attention to fumigations with a base of chlorine, an invention by the author, called 'fumigations guytoniennes'. The work begins with a summary of the author's experiments of 1773 using muriatic acid, and of the use of other mineral acids in Britain and Spain. This is followed by some thoughts on the effects of acids in general, and the advantages of 'oxigenants', especially 'acide muriatique oxigéné'. The work is concluded by a comparison of the actions of the various substances and the procedures for performing fumigations.

Good copy.
