Contemporary marbled calf, gilt spines with red gilt title labels, gilt covers, marbled edges, marbled endpapers. With two engraved frontispieces, 6 full-page engraved plates. VIII, 188, (1); (4), 204, (1) pp. Rare first French edition of an educational and moral story intended for children by Elisabeth Griffin, author of several other children's books. It was translated by F.J. Moreau, professor in mathematics from the English first edition ''The friends, or the contrast between virtue and vice'' (London, 1798). A Dutch edition appeared at Amsterdam in 1826. Nice set in fine bindings.- (Some foxing throughout).
