Amsterdam, E. Maaskamp, (ca. 1816). Oblong folio. Original green boards, with lila title-label on front cover. With engraved map of Holland on title, by C.H. Koning after E. Maaskamp, and 11 full-page engraved views and costume-plates, 10 in aquatint, by W. van Senus after H. Greeven. 1 leaf index.

Rare separate edition of the views and costume-plates engraved by Willem van Senus (ca. 1770-1851), all but one after designs by Hendrik Greeven (1787-1854), selected from the large stock of Evert Maaskamp, who at the turn of the 19th century was the foremost publisher of luxurious Dutch view- and costume-books. The first plate shows a fine  engraved view of Broek by Willem van Senus, size of the imprint 22 x 16 cm. The other ten prints are all in aquatint, engraved by Willem van Senus after Hendrik Greeven, size of  imprint ca. 17,5 x 13 cm. They show the house of Czar Peter at Zaandam, a residence at Zaandam, a yacht on the river Zaan, an elegant open horse-cart at De Zaan, girl's head-wear at De Zaan, North-Holland, Purmerend and Alkmaar, a women with two children at Assendelft, and two playing children from  Marken. The last print is in proof-state, before the text. The other plates are numbered 1-9, but are bound according to the different number-order of the present index-leaf.
Our collection differes both from the Greeven- and the Johnson-description by Landwehr, in so far that the B in the Greeven-description is replaced by the nr. 5 of the Johnson description, and the no. 5 of the Greeven-description  in our copy is present in unnumbered proof-state, while this  print is not included at all in the Johnson-edition. The size of all leaves is ca. 29 x 23 cm.

Fine copy of an unknown variant.- (Binding rubbed)
Cf. Landwehr, Col. Pl., 288 (Greeven); idem, 323 (Johnson); not in Lipperheide, etc.
