With 21 folding engraved plates a.o. navigation maps of the French and English fleet near Grenada, Basseterre, Martinique, Guadeloup, St. Christoffel and Santo Domingo. Three first editions of works on naval tactics and accounts on the actions of the fleet of the English and French in the West Indies written (2 & 3) or translated (1) by Jan Hendrik van Kinsbergen (1735-1819), the famous Dutch admiral. Ad 1: An account on Rodney's victory in the West Indies in 1782, written by Count F.J.P. De Grasse, the commander of the defeated French fleet (who was imprisoned by Rodney), with extensive descriptions on naval tactics. Kinsbergen translated it from French into Dutch. With on pp. 37-55 ''Memorie van den Heere de Bougainville'', a testimony of Bougainville to the military court on the events of 12th April 1782. Ad 2: Account on the necessity of a naval officer to understand the ''human heart'' of his soldiers. Ad 3: Account on th naval battles and tactics of the French and English fleet in the West Indies. Good copies.- (Restored hole in first title, some tears and stains in maps).
