First edition, first issue of a fine designed, lively and  attractive print-series of German city characters, costumes and professions, and even more important: one of the very few copies entirely printed in red. Joseph Franz Freiherr Von Goez (1754-1815), a German painter, draughtsman and engraver was admiringly called by his contemporaries the German Hogarth. The title-engraving of the present series shows the artist at work sketching a portrait and is titled "Le Dessinateur" (the Draughtsman).
It was re-issued with the German title "Die heutige sichtbare Körperwelt oder 100 Charakter Züge", and 6 leaves with index and a 6- or 7-line  verse to each plate added. The series shows a wide variety of characters, both male and female, in all sorts of dress and in a great diversity of postures. The printing in red greatly intensifies the liveliness and charm of the plates.

Good copy of one of the very few copies printed in red.- (Binding restored; some sl. thumbing; one corner torn off, not touching the plate).
