IV, 23, III pp. Original edition of this interesting thesis defended at the Utrecht University on 19 June 1738 by Daniel François van Goens who had matriculated at the Utrecht University in 1737 (Alb. Stud., col. 137) and who, in 1748, became father of the famous Dutch polyhistor, writer and philosopher Rycklof Michael van Goens (1748-1810). the treatise the possibilities and probabilities for habitation of the moon are examined. After a careful deliberation of the opinions of many scholars and writers, Van Goens comes to the conclusion that it is certainly not impossible for human beings to inhabit the moon.Goens dedicated his thesis to his father Rycklof Michael van Goens, his brother Volkert Melchior van Goens, Quirinus van Beaumont and Daniel Bernard, Lord of Nieuw Hellevoet and Johan Henric Strick.
