One of the most important catalogues by Edme-François Gersaint (ca. 1696-1750) of the cabinet of curiosities of Quentin De Lorangere with accurate and elaborate descriptions of paintings, prints atlases & maps and a large collection of shells. Gersaint describes a number of prints and print series by Jacques Callot on pp. 58-130 and elaborates on the works of Antoine Watteau on pp. 170-188. Gersaint, an engraver, antiquair and artdealer, was especially praised for his remarks on paintings and other works of art. This French expert also wrote a catalogue raisonné of works by Rembrandt. He was a friend of Antoine Watteau, who painted for him L' énseigne de Gersaint.
