Collection of 3 rare auction catalogues with accurate and elaborate descriptions of a variety of antiquities and art objects by Gersaint (ca. 1696-1750). Edme-François Gersaint, an engraver, antiquair and artdealer, was especially praised for his remarks on paintings and other works of art. This French expert also wrote a catalogue raisonné of works by Rembrandt. He was a friend of Antoine Watteau, who painted for him L' énseigne de Gersaint.

Ad 1: Auction catalogue with descriptions of a variety of antiquities and art objects from the legacy of Angran, Vicomte de Fonspertuis. Of special interest is the collection of porcelain of which the history of its manufacturing is described in the supplement of this work.
Ad 2: Auction catalogue which describes the Cabinet of M. de Valois, (1671-1747) a famous numismatic and 'antiquair du Roi', who succeeded to collect over 6000 coins from the Roman Empire.
Ad 3: This auction catalogue describes the collection of paintings, jewels and diamonds from the late French banker and jeweller Charles Godefroy.  Gersaint had charged the painter Godefroy, renowned for his good taste,  with the selection of the best pieces he could find in France and  abroad to build his collection of paintings. It contains works by  Rubens, Van Mieris, Teniers, Rembrandt, Veronese, Maratti, Bourdon,  to name but a few. The jewels and diamonds in the collection are also of excellent quality, as could be expected from a jeweller.
