(Utrecht, Culemborg?), late 17th century. 2 vols. Large folio (395 x 255 mm.) 19th century three quarter brown linnen (vol. 1) and red buckram (vol. 2), sides covered with paper, front covers lettered in gold. With many coat of arms, most of them coloured by hand. Vol. 1: 4 lvs.; vol. 2: 8 lvs.

Very interesting genealogies of two Dutch noble families originating from the city of Culemborg and the village Beusichem on the river Rhine, south-east of Utrecht, running from ca. 925 till ca. 1650. Both vols. are nicely written by the same writer probably in the third quarter of the seventeenth century.
Vol. 1: with title in banderol: 'Natuurlyke uyt Cuylenburgh'. Two separate coat-of arms, coloured by hand in the text, f. 1r- 2v, and two pages (f. 3r and 4r) with 20 coat of arms of  18, resp. 12 families with 6, resp. 8 coloured coat-of-arms, a.o. from the families Uytten Enge, Raephorst, Bronckhorst, Vyanen-Rijsenburg, Borre van Amerongen, Taets van Amerongen, Renesse, etc.

In this vol. there is a very important lossely inserted leaf written by Arnoldus Buchelius (1565-1641), the famous historian, polyhistor and genealogist from Utrecht who composed many such oblong leaves with family trees and coloured coat-of-arms of most of the noble families of the Netherlands. This leaf 'f. 183' (210 x 310mm.) contains annotations and family trees of the Culemburch family: 'Natuerl. van Cuylemburch (recto); Nat. van Cuylemburch Rysenburch' (verso). Many of these leaves were auctionned at the beginning of the 20th century; most of them are acquired by the University Library, Utrecht, now bound in three volumes (Ms. 1780). Apparently the leaf is used for this volume. See illustration.

Vol. 2: with title in banderol: ''T eerst Beusichum daarna Cuylenburgh'. Two separate coat-of arms, one coloured by hand in the text, f. 1r- 4v, and four pages (f. 5r, 6r, 7r and 8r) with 20 coat of arms of 6, 19, 17, resp. 12 families with 5, 17, 16, resp. 10 coloured coat-of-arms, a.o. from the families Arckel, VyanenMontfoort, Weerdenburg, Egmont, Reiffenscheyt, Lalaing, PallantCocq van Nerynen, Poelgeest, Nievelt, Merode, Mathenesse, etc.

Very good copies with wide margens and the bookplates of Edwin Daquett Sellers with his engraved coat of arms.
