With richly engraved allegorical title by Daret, full-page engraved royal coat-of-arms, and hundreds of armorial woodcuts in text, the first 42 coat-of-arms richly coloured by hand. (8), 366, (2 blank, 5 index), (3), 369-379, (9 errata) pp.

Rare first edition of an dictionary of armorial terminology, richly illustrated with woodcut coat-of-arms, mostly with two or three to one page, but often also with six or eight to one page or full-page. Louvan Geliot (died in 1641), was a French lawyer and poet. He wrote the present armorial dictionary to divert his thoughts from the death of his son. A second edition, with engraved coat-of-arms was published in 1661 by Paillot. At  the end of the present work, after the index, emblematic and laudatory poetry in honour of the author is added, signed by  Stephen Brechillet, Du May, P. Salmasius, Jacob Le Belin, Car.  Feuret, Franc. Maleteste, Petrus Guilelmus, N. Cheraneus, Ioan.  Bernier, etc., and is also illustrated with 13 different woodcut  coat-of-arms designed for the author. And at the very end, among the Errata also 32 woodcut coat-of-arms are present, which needed to be corrected.
Good copy, with various bookplates, incl. one of J.W. de Roever.- (Binding rubbed, spine sl. dam.; few old ms. notes on first endpaper, on title, and in text).
