Rare original edition of the first tragedy in verses by Leonard de Fuyter in five acts. The play, derived from a French novel or novella, is dedicated to the Amsterdam actor and poet Adam Karels van Germez (1610-1667). The preface contains laudatory poems by Isaac Vos, Abraham Bormeester, Gillis Noozeman and Daniël Le Bleu. It was first performed on June 18, 1646 in the Amsterdam theatre and printed in the same year. Leonard de Fuyter (1622- ca. 1658) was probably a painter or merchant and also a playwright. Besides this tragedy he also wrote Het verwarde hof (1656), De standvastige Isabella (1651) and Don Juan de Tessandier (1654).
