Second French edition of a rare and often praised work by Amédée François Frezier. The first edition which was issued a year earlier in Paris was in one 4to. volume. An important work because of the exactness of the descriptions and maps. Frezier (1682-1773) left France in 1712 and returned there in 1714 with large amounts of information about his travels to Brazil, Peru and Chili. His contributions to knowledge of botany and mineralogy were considerable, his contributions to the geographical knowledge, however were of great importance, because he rectified a lot of topographical positions on the maps as they were known until that moment. Our Amsterdam-edition contains a "Mémoire touchant l'etablissement des P.P. Jesuits des les Indes d'Espagne", a relation of missionaries in Paraguay. This text is not by Frezier. It originally appeared at Amsterdam as a separate publication in 1712.
Beautiful set.
