First editions of two treatises on the origins of printing by Pierre Simon Fournier, called 'Fournier le Jeune' (1712-1768), woodcutter, punch cutter and influential type founder. The author claims that Strasburg was the birthplace of printing with movable type.
Pierre Simon Fournier was the author of the most important French typography handbook of the 18th century: Manuel Typographique, utile aux gens de Lettres (1764-1766), which, according to Dibdin should be in every printing office.
The two present treatises were separately printed and later also issued together with 3 other essays as 'Traités historiques  et critiques sur l'origine et les progrès de l'imprimerie' (1758-61).
