Contemporary mottled calf, spine ribbed, richly gilt and lettered in gold, gilt binding edges. Title printed in red and black, engraved title 'Les ruses innocentes de la chasse et de la Pesche', 66 numbered plates, 9 of which are folding, woodcut vignette on title, head- and tail pieces and initials. (10), 58, (4); (4), pp. 59-122, (4); (6), pp. 123-186, (4); (4), pp. 187-232, (2); (6), pp. 238-292, (4) pp. First Amsterdam edition of the popular manual, teaching everything about the true gentleman's sports and recreation: bird catching, hunting and fishing, including instructions about how to make all sorts of hunting and fishing devices, such as nets, cages, fishing rods, etc., everything well illustrated. The book was published under the initials F.F.F.R.D.G., meaning Frère François Fortin, Religieux De Grammont. First published in 1660 the book became very popular and the prototype of the genre. Our edition evidently is copied from the second Paris edition of 1688. Another issue with a different imprint appeared in the same year, also in Amsterdam, but with the publisher P. Brunel. Further editions appeared in the 18th century with titles as Les délices de la campagne, and Traité de toutes sortes de pêsche. Good copy.- (Somewhat loose in binding).
