London, Jonathan Cape, (1962). 8vo. Original cloth with silver blade dagger on front cover and silver printed title on spine and original dust jacket designed by Richard Chopping. Double page plate of Dreamy Pines motor court. 221 pp.

First edition of this popular novel by Ian Fleming, who has written The spy who loved me in a different and anomaly way than the other James Bond books. For some reason, Ian Fleming chose to part with his accepted and successful technique of a third-person narrative focussing mainly on the character of James Bond, and instead he opted for a first person narrative by a woman with whom 007 falls in love. Central character and narrator is Vivienne Michel, a young Canadian woman who ends up running a cheap motel in the Adirondack Mountains to pay for a trip through America. When issued, it was banned in some countries as the most sexually explicit of Fleming's novels. This work formed the basis for the movie with Roger Moore in his third James Bond role, Barbara Bach as Major Anya Amasova (Agent Triple X) and Curd Jürgens as Karl Stromberg.

Good copy.- (Dust jacket with some staining).
