The young protagonist, a black servant of a Philadelphian merchant, is separated from his master during a shipwreck off the coast of England. After various adventures in Ireland and Wales, Congo is reunited with his master in England. The story was "intended to illustrate the force and value of a religious education ...", as the author stresses in the preface. The attractively illustrated work, sometimes ascribed to William Gardiner, was reprinted several times. One leaf loosening; binding rubbed; spine damaged. Fair copy of an interesting children's book.
