Blue boards, gilt spine and covers, marbled endpapers. 87 pp. Exhibition catalogue with descriptions of contemporary French 19th century paintings and sculpture and earlier paintings and sculptures held at at the Museum Palais de Luxembourg, 24th of April 1818. The Galerie Royal de Luxembourg, built on behalf of Maria de Medicis, is famous for its Galerie de Rubens with the historical paintings, glorifying the life of Maria de Medici. In 1750 it became the first public museum for paintings in France showing the public the old masters from the Royal collection. In 1818 works by contemporary and living artists, like Delacroix, Ingres and David were exhibited next to their predecessors. At the beginning of the catalogue information is provided for the the visitor on the opening hours. Fine copy.- (Library paper label pasted on top of spine).
